How to Install a Train Horn on a Toyota FJ Cruiser
Train horn install for Toyota FJ Cruiser — body-on-frame SUV, spare tire on rear door, underbody chassis mounting, OEM horn fuse-tap wiring.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser (2007–2014) is a body-on-frame SUV with retro styling, mechanically related to the 4Runner and Tacoma. Production ended in 2014 in the U.S. market — there are no new FJ Cruisers being built, but the install community remains active among owners. The FJ has the spare tire mounted on the rear tailgate (not under the bed), which makes spare-tire-delete brackets unsuitable; train horn installs use underbody chassis or frame-rail mounting similar to the Jeep Wrangler approach.

FJ Cruiser-specific install considerations
- Spare tire on the rear tailgate — no spare-tire-delete bracket option. Use underbody chassis mounting like the Jeep Wrangler JK or JL.
- Toyota fuse-tap pattern is the same as Tacoma / Tundra / 4Runner — see /install/by-vehicle/toyota/tacoma/.
- Trail Teams Special Edition skid plate clearance: verify before drilling.
- Discontinued production means aftermarket bracket support is mature for the 2007–2014 chassis but won’t expand further.
Recommended kits
- HornBlasters Conductor’s Special 228H — compact 2-gallon kit fits the FJ’s underbody envelope.
- HornBlasters Shocker XL Kit — 5-gallon with custom bracket.
Step-by-step
Use the Wrangler JK install guide procedure for underbody mounting; use the Tacoma install guide procedure for the OEM fuse-tap wiring portion.
Common FJ-specific problems
- Aftermarket bracket fitment limited by FJ-specific chassis geometry. Custom fab common.
- Trail Teams skid plate interferes with universal underbody brackets.
- Standard MICRO2 fuse-tap issues — same as Toyota family.
Legal reminder
Same as any aftermarket train horn — installation legal, road use restricted by state vehicle codes. See /legal/.
