Class 8 truck cab-roof installs typically run 6-10 hours due to roof access and bracket fabrication.

Yes — for any horn drawing more than 5-10 amps (which is most aftermarket train horns and all complete kits with compressors). The factory horn button only handles low current. Wiring a 30-amp compressor through the factory horn switch will fry the switch. Use a 30A or 40A automotive relay, fused on the high-current side at the battery, with the factory horn button (or a new dedicated switch) controlling the relay coil. Most common locations: behind the front bumper (forward-facing, best acoustic projection), under the bed (downward-facing, hidden from view), inside the engine bay (for compact kits like Vixen 0.5-gal — under-hood secondary battery tray on T1 GM trucks), or in the spare tire well. For Class 8 semi-trucks, cab roof mount with appropriate bracket. Avoid mounting near brake lines, fuel lines, or the engine's heat-exhaust path.

Yes — and you should. Keep the factory horn wired and functional for state-inspection compliance and as a "soft" warning option. Add the train horn on a separate dedicated switch (not the factory horn button). Many states require the vehicle to have a working horn audible at 200 ft for inspection — your factory horn meets this; the train horn is supplemental.

0.5 gal (Vixen-class) gives 1-2 second sustained blast before pressure drops noticeably. 1.5-2 gal (most Vevor / Wolo / mid-tier kits) gives 3-5 seconds. 5 gal (HornBlasters Shocker XL kit, Viking V103C-6-12) gives 8-12 seconds and is the standard for parade / show use. Pick based on your honk-frequency expectation. The compressor refills the tank between honks; the tank reserve sets your single-blast duration.

Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. § 2302) prohibits manufacturers from voiding the entire warranty for an aftermarket modification unless the modification caused the specific failure being claimed. Adding a train horn won't void your engine warranty. It might void warranty coverage on the specific electrical circuit you tap into (e.g., if you wire through the factory horn relay and burn it out). Use a separate fused circuit and the horn install is warranty-safe.

Yes, but options are limited. You need a compact single-trumpet kit (Vixen VXO8805/1101, HornBlasters Outlaw 127H) due to space constraints. The 12V electrical system is fine. Air tank fits in saddlebag or on rear rack. For a sidecar bike or cruiser with luggage, mid-size dual-trumpet is possible. Output ~125-130 dB realistic for single-trumpet motorcycle installs.

No state requires a permit for installation. State inspections (in inspection states) check the factory horn — they don't inspect or measure aftermarket horns. The legal question is use, not install.
