About United Pacific

United Pacific Industries is a major US-based aftermarket parts supplier focused on the commercial truck market — semi-trucks, freightliners, Peterbilt / Kenworth / Mack / International tractors, plus classic-truck restoration parts. UP's train horn line targets Class 8 cab-roof installs primarily, though several models are sized for pickup applications.

UP positions itself between mid-tier aftermarket (HornBlasters, Kleinn) and the budget-tier (Vevor, Vixen). Pricing reflects this — UP horns aren't the cheapest in the market, but the chrome zinc-alloy build quality is generally better than $80 Vevor kits.

United Pacific train horn models

  • UP 46129 — 3-trumpet chrome-plated zinc alloy, 145 dB ± 10 dB, 12V heavy-duty solenoid, 150 PSI max, 15.75" × 12.5" × 11.5" (Amazon)
  • UP 46130 — 4-trumpet Standard Duty (Berube's bundle with compressor + 5.5L tank)
  • UP 46131 — 5-trumpet chrome (UP product page)
  • UP 46151 Competition Series — 4-trumpet, 150 dB ± 10 dB claimed, sold horn-only or with 1.5/3 gallon air systems (Chrome Country)
  • UP 46153 Dixie Air Horn — plays the "Dixie" tune (Dukes of Hazzard reference) (UP product page)
  • UP 46174 Emergency Tone — chrome emergency-style horn (UP product page)
  • UP 46140 — Heavy duty air compressor and 5.5 liter tank (sold as part of the 46130 bundle)

What makes United Pacific different

  • Chrome zinc-alloy trumpets. Lighter than Grand General's brass but with similar mirror finish. Trade-off: zinc alloy is acoustically less resonant than brass — slightly different chord voicing.
  • Specialty horns. The Dixie Air Horn (plays the Dixie melody) and Emergency Tone Horn aren't standard chord horns — they target nostalgia / themed installs (classic Dodge Charger restorations, fire/EMT-themed trucks).
  • Bundle availability. Several UP retailers (Berube's, Chrome Country) sell the horn + compressor + tank as a complete package — convenient for buyers who don't want to source components separately.
  • Wide commercial-truck distribution. UP products are stocked at Iowa 80, Raney's, Berube's, Big Rig Chrome Shop, and other Class 8 specialty retailers — easier to buy at a truck stop than a HornBlasters horn.

Output reality check

UP advertises the 46129 at 145 dB ± 10 dB and the Competition Series at 150 dB ± 10 dB. The "± 10 dB" tolerance is unusually wide — meaning UP's measurement could vary by 20 dB across units, which is a 100× loudness difference. We treat this with appropriate skepticism:

  • The 145 dB upper bound is plausible for a chrome zinc-alloy 3-trumpet at 150 PSI
  • The 135 dB lower bound is also possible if measurement is taken at distance or with a smaller compressor
  • Independent measurements would resolve this; UP doesn't publish testing methodology

For verified-output buying decisions, HornBlasters Conductor's 228H at 147.7 dB at 3 ft (HornBlasters published methodology) is more reliable. UP's chrome aesthetic and specialty horn line are the differentiators, not absolute peak output.

We do not perform hands-on testing — see our methodology. UP's "±10 dB" tolerance on dB claims is unusually wide; treat absolute output figures with appropriate caution.
