Methodology
This review aggregates publicly available information from manufacturer specifications, retailer listings, and verified user reviews. We do not perform hands-on testing. Last reviewed: October 16, 2026. Primary data comes from Vixen Horns’ official VXO8358CI product page and its published warranty terms, cross-checked against the brand’s sibling OCTOPOD kit listings (horn-only chrome, 5-gallon chrome, 5-gallon black and dual-compressor chrome) on the same store. A web search turned up no third-party retailer listing for this exact part number, so every number below traces to Vixen’s own pages, listed in the Sources section.
Quick verdict
The VXO8358CI is the “everything in one box” version of Vixen’s patented OCTOPOD: eight chrome-plated metal trumpets, a 200 PSI compressor rated 100% duty at 100 PSI, a 5-gallon 8-port tank, plumbing, a horn button and a tire inflation kit with blow gun and 35 ft coil hose. The list of included parts is long and thoroughly documented. Compared side by side with the plain chrome 5-gallon OCTOPOD kit (VXO8350/8124XC), the tire inflation kit works out to a $67 premium. The weak spots are clear: no decibel rating at any distance and no pressure rating for the horn itself. On top of that, the tank’s 150 PSI working rating sits below the included 170–200 PSI pressure switch, and the listing was sold out when we checked. We rate it 3.4/5. In our editorial view it’s a well-equipped showpiece kit for owners who will actually use onboard air for tires, but it’s hard to recommend over the cheaper non-inflation kit while it isn’t even in stock.
What it is
The OCTOPOD VXO8358CI is a complete 12V train horn system built around Vixen’s eight-trumpet OCTOPOD horn in chrome-plated metal. The trumpets come in four matched pairs: 16½”, 13¾”, 11½” and 9” long, each with a 3¾” bell, on a base 26½” wide. Two heavy-duty 12V solenoid valves with what Vixen calls a larger air orifice feed the horn. The design is covered by U.S. Design Patent No. D937,344 S.
The difference from the other 5-gallon chrome OCTOPOD bundle is the tire inflation kit. Vixen’s product copy for the VXO8350/8124XC lists the same horn, 5-gallon tank and 200 PSI compressor package but no inflator. The VXO8358CI adds an inflator gun with a 150 PSI gauge, a 35 ft coil hose, a blow gun, assorted nozzles and a carry bag. Vixen pitches it as “ideal for all vehicles with a 12V system.” In practice, the 26½”-wide horn and the 20”-long tank make it a full-size pickup, semi, RV or off-road rig kit. The target buyer is someone who wants a loud, eye-catching horn and wants onboard air to air tires back up after trail runs.

Two cells say “not disclosed” on purpose. Vixen’s copy calls the kit “a bold, loud choice” but doesn’t attach a decibel figure to the OCTOPOD, and it gives no PSI ceiling for the horn assembly. Our guide to advertised vs real-world decibels explains why a missing number is better than an invented one, but at nearly $500 a published rating would help buyers.
One spec deserves a closer look. The tank is listed at 150 PSI (max 250 PSI), while the included pressure switch cuts in and out at 170–200 PSI. The listing reads as though the tank tolerates 250 PSI but carries a 150 PSI working rating, which the included switch exceeds in normal operation. Vixen doesn’t explain the gap. If it matters to you, ask the brand before buying. Our PSI explainer covers what these numbers mean.

What’s in the box
Horn
- OCTOPOD 8-trumpet train air horn, chrome plated

- 200 PSI 12V oil-less compressor with vibration-isolated mounting plates
- ¼” NPT stainless braided leader hose and intake filter assembly
- Insulated wiring with connectors and a 30 A inline fuse in a waterproof holder
Air tank kit
- 5-gallon, 8-port air tank
- 240 PSI pressure gauge, 170–200 PSI pressure switch, 250 PSI safety valve
- ¼” NPT wing-style drain valve, compression fittings for ¼” and 3/8” OD line, three hex plugs
- 25 ft of 3/8” OD nylon hose, 16 ft of 12 mm thread sealant tape
- Horn button and mounting hardware
Tire inflation kit
- Tire inflator gun with 150 PSI gauge, air-bleed button and 12” rubber hose
- 35 ft coil hose with quick-connect stud and coupler
- Blow gun, ¼” NPT male quick-connect coupler for the tank

Install / compatibility notes
This is a full onboard-air build. Mounting the compressor, tank and horn and running hose and wiring is a weekend job for a confident DIYer. Our installation guide walks through the order of operations. Plan around three things:
- Space. The horn is 26½” wide and the tank is 20” long × 8½” in diameter. Frame-rail or under-bed mounting on full-size trucks, semis and RVs is realistic; tighter vehicles usually aren’t. Our air tank size guide compares 5 gallons with smaller tanks.
- Electrical. The compressor draws 23 A, and Vixen includes a 30 A inline fuse. Run a relay for the compressor if your switch wiring doesn’t include one, and use a relay for the two horn solenoids too. See our amp draw, fuse and wire gauge guide and relay wiring guide.
- Pressure. Given the tank’s listed 150 PSI rating versus the 170–200 PSI switch, confirm with Vixen which working pressure they intend before you finalize the system. Drain the tank regularly with the included wing valve; our tank draining guide covers the routine.
The tire inflation kit plugs into the tank through the included ¼” NPT quick-connect coupler. The inflator gauge reads to 150 PSI, which covers passenger and light-truck tires. Our onboard air uses guide covers what else a 5-gallon system can run.

Eight trumpets on dual solenoids will be extremely loud even without a published number. Before you wire in that horn button, check our state legality reference.

The VXO8358CI suits full-size truck, RV or off-road owners who want the outrageous OCTOPOD look and plan to use onboard air for tires too. While it's sold out and dB-unrated, the in-stock black VXO8350B/8124XB kit is the more practical buy.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions people ask most about this topic.
- How loud is the Vixen OCTOPOD VXO8358CI?
- Vixen Horns publishes no decibel rating for the OCTOPOD at any test distance; the product page only calls the kit "a bold, loud choice." With eight metal trumpets on dual solenoids fed by a 200 PSI compressor, expect it to be very loud, but there's no manufacturer or independent number to quote.
- What's the difference between the VXO8358CI and the VXO8350/8124XC?
- Both pair the chrome OCTOPOD with a 5-gallon tank and a 200 PSI compressor. The VXO8358CI adds a tire inflation kit (inflator gun with 150 PSI gauge, 35 ft coil hose, blow gun, nozzles and carry bag) and costs $490.97 versus $423.97 on Vixen's store. Both were sold out at review time.
- Can I use this kit to air up my tires?
- Yes, that's the point of this version. The inflation kit connects to the tank through an included ¼" NPT quick-connect coupler, and the compressor is rated 100% duty cycle at 100 PSI with 1.7 CFM free flow, per Vixen's spec sheet.
- What PSI does the VXO8358CI run at?
- The included pressure switch is 170-200 PSI and the compressor's maximum working pressure is 200 PSI. Vixen lists the 5-gallon tank's pressure rating as 150 PSI (max 250 PSI) with a 250 PSI safety valve, so confirm the intended working pressure with Vixen before installing.
- Is the VXO8358CI in stock?
- No. Vixen's official store showed it as sold out when we checked on 10/16/2026. The black 5-gallon OCTOPOD kit without the inflator (VXO8350B/8124XB) was in stock at $413.87.
